Milan 3 Genoa 1
A hard-fought win for AC Milan keeps the pressure on city rivals Inter
AC Milan strengthened their grip on top spot in Serie A thanks to a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Genoa on Friday.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute with a simple tap-in from close range after a cross from Theo Hernandez. Genoa equalised just before half-time through Goran Pandev, who headed in from a corner.
Milan regained the lead in the 53rd minute when Rafael Leao fired home a low shot from the edge of the area. Franck Kessie made sure of the points in the 77th minute with a stunning long-range effort.
The victory moves Milan three points clear of Inter at the top of the table, although the Nerazzurri have a game in hand. Genoa remain in 19th place, three points from safety.
ConclusionMilan's victory was a hard-fought one, but it was ultimately deserved. The Rossoneri were the better team for much of the match and created the better chances. Genoa showed great spirit to come back from a goal down, but they ultimately lacked the quality to get anything from the game.
Milan's win will give them a huge boost in confidence as they look to maintain their title challenge. Genoa, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the result, but they can take some solace from the fact that they gave a good account of themselves against one of the best teams in the league.
